COOPERATIVE AGREEMENT

St. Petersburg Academy of Culture’s Faculty of Library and Information Studies and UCLA’s Department of Information Studies

  

WHEREAS the faculty of DLIS values cultural diversity and is one of its strengths (see 1996 SWOT assessment, point 4) and the DLIS faculty recognizes the need to monitor the international environment (see principle number 1 affirmed at 4 June 19 96 faculty meeting) AND

 WHEREAS the Department does not currently have many foreign students (N=5) nor any formal agreement with any other international educational program which could serve as a model for other such programs with the Pacific Rim (including Mexic o, Australia, New Zealand, and Singapore) or Central and South America for that matter

 THEREFORE the faculty of the DLIS wishes to have an exchange of students and publications and directs:

1.  the departmental chair, Chris Borgman, to sign a short-term agreement to that effect AND

 2. the faculty coordinator, John Richardson, to work out the details with the campus offices and in cooperation with the Development Office seek new and different sources of extramural funds so that this cooperative program will involve no direc t cost to the department and potentially develop more resources for the department.
