Statutes and Ordinances of the Order of St. Michel

Publication place: Paris

Date of Publication 1523-1528

Provenance: Unknown.

Interpretation: This manuscript was probably one of twelve made for the court of King Francis I. In 1523 and again in 1528, the Order’s herald Antoine Tavart commissioned and paid the Parisian artist Étienne Collaud to illustrate twelve copies of the Statutes, of which this must be one.

Contributor: Richard Rouse
